Purselane is an uncultivated plant. It is a common weed in rabi and kharif-1 crop fields. It's leaves are oily and fleshy. The leaves are deep green . This is a nutritious vegetable . In terms of nutrient content it is rich in vitamins and antioxidant.It has enough vitamin A, vitamin E and vitamin C. It is also a rich source of omega-3 fatty acid which is very much beneficial for heart. It contains minerals including calcium, magnesium, potassium and iron. Calcium and magnesium contribute to bone strength. Potassium controls high blood pressure.
Leaf extract of purslane is effective for treatment of opthalmia.
