It has saggitate leaves on succulent long leaf-stalks and underground corms with a large number of daughter corms . The leaves, stem, and root are edible . The leaves contain sterols and oxalic acid .Rhizomes contain starch and trypsin inhibitor and calcium oxalate .

Various parts of the plant are used in treatment of wounds, dry cough, bronchitis and anthrax. Extract of corm ijs hypotensive. Juice of leaves and roots is used in tumours ulcerated polyp, and cancer of nose.Juice of the leaf petioles is used as a stryptic,stimulant and rubefacient.
